History of the Delta Community Choir

Four women started this versatile choir in 1984. The first rehearsal was at South Delta Senior High School on January 10th of that year. 50 Singers showed up for what would prove to be a long-lasting Delta tradition.

The choir began with and continues to perform an annual winter and spring concert. The choir also sings at Remembrance Day ceremonies, and has performed at various other locations including the Kinsman Centre, the extended care unit of Delta Hospital, Chamber of Commerce events, Kiwanis events, the annual Delta Parks and Rec. Christmas Concert, Delta Cable for broadcast through the festive season and the Festival of Lights at Van Dusen Gardens in Vancouver. This busy schedule fulfills the dual purpose of the choir; to provide an opportunity to learn about and enjoy choral music and to bring that music to the community. As of September 2011, the DCC is auditioned for pitch and placement. All adult singers are welcome to try-out!

The choir is truly a reflection of the community; made up of local people who enjoy coming together to sing all types of music.

In January 2008 the choir expanded by starting a group specifically for young adults. Tapestry is the idea of former Musical Director, Tami Harker. By providing another opportunity to sing and be heard, the choir continues to fulfill its mandate. As of September 2011, this ensemble is auditioned. All adult singers are welcome to try-out!
